Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is commonly used to help with anxiety, depression, trauma, phobias and addictions. It is a talking therapy based on the idea that our thoughts (cognition), feelings (emotions) and actions (behaviours) all interact together. More specifically, our feelings and our behaviour are determined by our thoughts.

CBT helps clients become aware of when they make a negative interpretation from a situation or event, and of any behavioural patterns which reinforce distorted thinking. It can explore a client’s view on a particular experience, providing tools to reframe any event in a more supportive way.  As a result, alternative ways of thinking can be developed which can reduce distress and create a more positive outlook.

It can also be a great for anyone who needs support to challenge unhelpful thoughts that are ultimately preventing them from reaching their goals or living the life they want to live.

During a CBT session at dovelight, the therapist will explore your response to certain situations, helping to understand and review your thought patterns. Together you will find new ways of thinking that will benefit you and learn how to integrate them into your day to day. CBT uses a direct, warm and empathic approach to help you make changes in your life.
